Car accidents are a common occurrence in the Baton Rouge area but always take victims by surprise. A car accident can result in the severe injury or death of a loved one and enormous medical bills that the family of the crash victim must often bear. The medical bills for one 87-year-old car accident victim must be astronomical after an extended hospitalization. Authorities say that the elderly woman was injured in a serious Highway 1 crash on Dec. 17 and died of her injures last week.
It is common for car accident victims to be hospitalized for weeks or even months before succumbing to their injuries. Such intensive hospital stays can take an emotional and financial toll on a family, which is why many families rely on personal injury attorneys to help them obtain the compensation that they deserve.
Serious accidents are often caused by the negligence of other drivers and these are the people who should bear the financial burden on the serious injuries that they cause. A personal injury attorney can help the families of car accident victims hold these negligent drivers accountable through personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits.
Authorities say that the 87-year-old's daughter was killed in the Dec. 17 crash at the intersection of Highway 1 and Sugar Plantation Parkway in Addis. This intersection is known to be very dangerous. A similar car accident occurred at the intersection in April and took the life of LSU coach Les Miles' sister.
Local authorities plan on installing a J-turn to prevent drivers on Sugar Plantation Parkway drivers from crossing the highway.
